President Obama launched the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) to expand opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs and civil society activists. Building on the success of the President’s young leader initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, YLAI will incubate and accelerate the work of young business and civil society leaders from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States.

The Futures Fund Community Health Incubator is a first-of-its-kind entrepreneurship program at Volunteers of America (VOA) to accelerate social enterprises that improve quality, equity, and access to care for Medicaid and at-risk populations. The program includes business training and coaching, as well as grants and potential venture capital investments to help drive projects from ideation to scaling stages. Great tie in with Blue Zones project.

Looking to jumpstart your career in Information Technology? Youth Job Center has partnered with National Able to create a free Information Technology (IT) training program. This is an accelerated training that is designed to help you transition from classroom to IT careers. Training will include a combination of classroom instruction and online course work. The program is 16-weeks long with rolling admissions and 18-hours of training per week, and is fully funded through our WIOA grant. All participants will be provided a laptop, which you can keep upon completion!

The Nebula Entrepreneurship eXperience (NEX) is a 4-week online summer camp for high schoolers. With a team of fellow co-founders, you'll learn how to develop your own tech startup! Grasp essential entrepreneurial concepts from industry-leading mentors in Google, Uber, Amazon, etc. while coding a mobile app prototype of your product. The final pitch day allows teams to present their work to a panel of accomplished judges and parents. NEX is entirely online for 2021! This is a program of the Shooting Stars Foundation.

The initiative is funded by the department’s Incubation Support Programme (ISP). The programme aims to develop incubators and strengthen local and national economies. The College of Staten Island (CSI) is partnering with nine other local groups, including community based organizations and the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, on a new initiative called the Youth Workforce Initiative Network of Staten Island, also known as “Youth WINS.” As the North Shore’s new technology ecosystem takes root and connects to the larger New York City technology community, Youth WINS will be able to connect young adults on Staten Island with the economic development opportunities that are burgeoning in the technology sector.
